Saturday, May 27

Saturday...Well I got up and met Fr. Paul Divine from the Oakland diocese. He is port chaplain and originally from Artrim, Ireland. The Mass was at 8 a.m. in the Theater. Today was the feast of Augustine of Canterbury...a Benedictine of course!

Breakfast in the Lido was quick and good. They had figs, fresh squeezed orange juice and Cliff loved the scrambled eggs. Just a note on the coffee....Wonderful. Good coffee can make or break a cruise. This was very good. The Vision of the Sea is port and forward of us about a quarter mile. I am writing from the Explorers lounge or the Explorations Cafe. It has wonderful desks windowside with leather topped writing desks. There are free postcards and stationary and they will be mailed from Juneau tomorrow. Tonight is the first Formal night. There are formal pictures with the Captain. John gave us a gift of a photo credit so we will have a momento from our trip. The seas are a little rough today and there is a warning about walking outside as a result. The water in the pool was sloshing pretty good on the Lido deck but that didn't keep people out of the hottub. I walked 14,500 steps yesterday! I think that is the most I have done in a day yet.
I took a great nap Saturday and Cliff checked out the Friends of Bill W meeting. We had our picture taken before the dinner. Watched "Matedor," the Brosnan movie, and had shrimp cocktail and cheese and fruit in the afternoon. Dinner was slow, service a tad more attentive than the night before. The shrimp cocktail and crab legs were good but refills were slow. We were the last out of the dining again. Cappucino Bombe was nice and our tablemate directed us to the Piano Bar for truffles. We went up to the Crows Nest for a bit and outside despite the wind warnings. Cliff found a warm vent to stand by. We went back to our room and had a great night's sleep. They will stop and pick up the pilots very early in the morning for the Inside Passage navigation.
